Let's get the bad news out of the way

I'm sorry to say that I was robbed during my little jaunt to Barcelona. It's very embarrasing for me to have to admit that I was taken in by some very clever pickpockets, but in the interest of making as many people aware of what to beware of, I've written an article about how it all happened, and if you're interested you can read it here.

Happily, it could have been worse, and I feel as if I got away with minimal damage, both to my finances and to my person. My pride, however, is another thing. I put it behind me as quickly as I could, and got on with enjoying my trip.

Okay, now that's out of the way we can talk about happier things.

My word!! I'm so sorry this happened to you. I guess we can never be too careful. You wrote a great article, though, and hopefully it will help others to be more aware. So glad you weren't physically harmed. ((HUGS))

I was very nearly mugged myself when visiting Barcelona a few years back. There were four of us backpacking through Spain & Portugal. We arrived Barcelona by train one morning, and as the train-station is some distance from the city we took the tube downtown.

I was the last person of the group to enter the carriage and as soon as I entered I noticed this weird looking fellow sitting down on the floor in front of me. He grabbed hold of my feet! Before I was even close to realizing what was happening two other guys came up from behind each of them grabbing hold of one of my arms. A fourth guy started going through my rucksack. Luckily my friends came to my rescue and managed to scare them off before they could get anything.

This happened within my first 5 minutes in Barcelona, and no - I haven't been back since...
